With Christmas coming right up, you may be scrambling to find gifts for everyone, wrapping presents into the wee hours and attending holiday parties each day. While all of those are great ways to celebrate the holidays, have you considered celebrating in other ways that may fulfill you in a different way?
A wonderful way to honor loved ones, spend time with family and friends and bless those that need some extra help is by giving back to an organization you love. There are more ways you can give back to your community than we can begin to tell you about but here are a few things to consider if you are trying to find a meaningful way to spread holiday cheer with those less fortunate.
What organization do you want to support?
Think of a cause that mean a lot to you. It may be literacy, the arts or providing food and other necessities for those in need. If you aren’t already familiar with an organization in your area that supports the cause you are most passionate about, take a look online to see what you can find.
How can you support this organization?
Does the organization need someone to sit with those learning to read, organize a fundraiser or collect canned goods for those that are hungry? This list could go on and on of the ways you could give of your time to an organization. The point is every organization needs something and all you have to do is ask and they will tell you what kind of help they need.
What if you are too busy?
If you don’t have the time to donate, most organizations are always accepting donations. Nonprofit organizations work hard to stretch every dollar they have to do the most good and the more money they have, the more people they are able to help.
How can you incorporate this into your holiday?
Instead of buying presents for everyone on your list, consider making a donation to an organization they are passionate about in their honor or plan an afternoon with a friend to do something together that will benefit others instead of attending another holiday party.
While supporting worthy causes at the holidays is a great thing to do, don’t feel like you have to stop there. Most organizations need help all year long. Find an organization you love and give back throughout the year.
