Building Your Home Farm
The health trend is starting to pick up. Gyms and gardens are becoming more popular. Does your family need a health kick? You can start building your home farm with little stress. Listed are 10 easy first time gardening edibles.
Zucchini– Know that this is a crop you will consume a couple months later and continue to do so through summer time. It is known for its easiness to grow and the abundance it produces.
Peppers– These need a longtime to grow but are worth the wait. They come in a range of colors, sizes and spices. Give your taste buds a kick.
Chard– Easy to grow from seed. Prefers cooler weather but can tolerate some summer heat. Mix this with other edibles and ornamentals.
Tomatoes– A garden is not a garden without tomatoes. They are the most popular but you need to find the types that grow well within your climate. There are so many available- even hybrids!
Beans– Snap beans to be precise. This produce can either grow in a bush or a vine which will climb.
Strawberries– Versatile to almost all climates and adapt to a number of containers. Strawberries are reliable and trouble free but watch out for the presence of birds.
Herbs– The easiest edibles to grow. Some, such as mint, are almost impossible not to grow. They need full sun and regular watering. You can mix these with other edibles or grow them in their own area.
Greens– These are one of the few crops that do best in partial shade when warm. They are bred to resist bolting.
Carrots– These crops actually come in a variety of colors- not just orange. Ready in about a month and require being planted in loose cod.
Radishes– One of the easiest crops to grow. Plant from spring to summer then again in fall. They are ready in about two weeks.
