Summer Activities in Houston for Kids

Great Summer Activities for Kids in Houston

Studies have shown sleeping in for more than ten hours a day does just as much harm as smoking a pack of cigarettes a day. So, how can you get your kids out of the house and still have fun, even in the heat Houston can bring? Indoors or outdoors, Houston offers an array of attractions everyone in the family can enjoy.

The space center – Space is an incredible thing to begin with, and something anyone of any age can enjoy. Open until Sept. 4th, the Space Center is holding a special augmented reality summer event, in which science fiction comes to life! This is one of dozens of exhibits seen, and an entire building of amazing journeys to take.

The Children’s Museum of Houston – There’s nothing like stimulating your child’s learning while they have fun and do hand’s on activities with other children their age. Discover everything from plant life, to water works, to government, inventions, and even program coding all at this engaging museum. For the summer, they are open seven days a week, and the admission includes all activities throughout the facility.

Downtown Aquarium – Something as mystical as space, though not as big, is the ocean. What better way to see the sea life than at an aquarium? Here you can dine while watching a peaceful aquatic scene, and take your family on an adventure to all different parts of the world. Explore the murky swamps of Louisiana, the deep depths of a ship wreck, or travel to the rainforest, or even India!

Wet’n’Wild SplashTown – Nothing beats the heat quite like a water park. Here, there’s a ride for everyone. The Paradise river, or the wave pool, for those who are smaller. Perhaps if you’re more of a thrill seeker you’d enjoy Brain Drain, or the Texas Freefall. Just for kids, there’s a Wet’N’Wild Jr., where there’s a little bit of everything for the younger kids.

There are also plenty of parks, city and recreational activities available to the residents of Houston. Check out these websites for more information.
